“Not Our Cup of Tea!” Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011

Members of Sun Cities/West Valley NOW, Phoenix/Scottsdale NOW, and community activists including members of the End of War Coalition demonstrated against the Tea Party Patriots, Saturday, February 26th outside the Phoenix Convention Center.

The Tea Party Patriots, a national coalition of more than 3,000 local tea-party groups, held their three-day policy summit at the downtown Phoenix Convention Center the weekend of February 25 – 27, 2011.  The Tea Party’s slash-and-burn budgetary demands include repealing health care reform, privatizing Social Security, and gutting Medicare. The Tea Party promotes policies that favor their backers – the richest 20 percent of Americans who own 85 percent of the wealth in the U.S. and receive nearly half of all income annually.

NOW condemns the Tea Party’s extreme views that set about to undo the policies and programs that advance equality. The Tea Party’s avid abhorrence of government spending could irrevocably damage programs essential to the well being of women and children, such as domestic violence prevention and recovery, family planning, education and health, among many others.

In addition, any organization supported by Sara Palin, Utah's Mike Lee, Nevada's Sharron Angle, Sen. Coburn (R-OK), and Sen. DeMint (R-SC) has to be scary!
